Project 5: Concept Art

For the fifth piece of design work for the Web-based portfolio is an image that demonstrates my skills in concept art. This image was created using Adobe Photoshop with a series of different brushes and strokes. The inspiration for this design was from my passion of elephants; graceful giants that are very unique in the animal kingdom. I started by this piece of work by simply drawing the form of the elephant. Once I got the desired shape, I began to use the various greys in my color swatches to fill in the elephant shape. The final touch was the elephant’s tusks, but I decided to add a twist. I began imagining how the elephant might survive and defend its self with tusks that appear to be more antler-like. I decided to add color to the image, so that the image of the elephant would stand out from the background.
